Maximised Efficiency

The machine is designed for efficient and productive operation, featuring low fuel consumption supported by the Komatsu Traction Control System (KTCS) and a Komatsu-designed electronically controlled countershaft transmission. Increased cooling capacity and a newly arranged cooling system ensure reliable performance in demanding conditions. An engine power mode selection system allows the operator to adapt performance to the task at hand.

First-Class Comfort

An ergonomically designed round dashboard is incorporated, with switches arranged for easy reach by the operator. An air-suspension seat is provided as standard, damping vibrations transmitted from the machine and reducing operator fatigue. Hydraulically driven fans and a redesigned cooling system layout contribute to low noise levels. Ride comfort is further enhanced by front hydro-pneumatic suspension on the front axle, supported by a De Dion–type trailing arm, which allows the machine to move smoothly over uneven terrain. At the rear, dynamic equalizer structures equipped with hydro-pneumatic suspensions provide additional stability and comfort.

Easy Maintenance

The transmission and brake system oil filters are located on the right side of the machine, allowing convenient servicing from the ground. The radiator fan and charge air cooler fan are hydraulically driven and feature a reversible rotation function to blow off dirt and dust accumulated on the cores. Fan reverse mode can be easily controlled through the monitor. In addition, the cab can be tilted rearward by 32°, providing easy access for maintenance of the engine and transmission.

KTCS (Traction Control)

Komatsu has developed various shoe/wheel slip control technologies including traction control system in bulldozers, Automatic Spin Regulator (ASR) for rigid type off-highway dump trucks, etc. These technologies are combined and upgraded to the evolutionally-advanced traction control system for articulated dump trucks. KTCS allows easy traveling on soft ground and slippery road only by operating the accelerator.
