Komatsu Reinforces Commitment to African Mining Sector with Major Presence at Mining Indaba 2026

Vilvoorde, January 2026 — Komatsu is reinforcing its dedication to Africa's mining sector at Mining Indaba 2026 with its most significant presence to date.

Bringing top executives from Komatsu together with nearly 50 representatives from across its operations, Komatsu is consolidating expertise from its global mining portfolio to address the specific requirements of African mining operations.

“The presence of our leadership team and the representatives from Komatsu’s international operations, including product experts from the factories here at Mining Indaba reflects our long-term commitment to Africa's mining industry,” says Eric Perben, Senior General Manager Africa Division at Komatsu.

“Combined with our strong local footprint provided by trusted distributors who understand the unique challenges and opportunities across the continent, we are positioned to deliver comprehensive support to our African mining customers with both global resources and local responsiveness.”

Advancing African mining sector through cutting-edge digital solutions

At Mining Indaba 2026, Komatsu will showcase integrated technology platforms alongside its equipment offerings to address the diverse operational needs of African mining operations. These technologies will be presented by Modular Mining, Immersive Technologies, Mining Technology Solutions (MTS) Global, and iVolve.

By deploying these technologies, Komatsu is helping mining companies across the continent optimise productivity, enhance safety protocols, and achieve measurable improvements in operational efficiency.

Upskilling local workforce to meet future challenges

With the aim to build local technical expertise and strengthen the continent's mining workforce for future industry demands, Komatsu recently announced TICAD 9 the establishment of a new training center in Côte d’Ivoire.

Initially focused on developing mechanics and equipment operators for customers, distributors, and local communities across West Africa, this center will gradually expand to include equipment stock, a parts depot, and marketing capabilities, and finally serving as Komatsu’s Core Facility for West Africa.

In Senegal, Komatsu is providing scholarships through the Centre de Formation Professionnelle Technique Senegal-Japon (CFPT), an institution born from the historical and successful cooperation between Senegal and Japan. These scholarships aim to bridge the skills gap between the local workforce and the demand for skilled workers by training highly qualified technicians and professionals with solid technical skills and core values of discipline, integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility.

Creating value together with every partner we serve

As Africa's mining landscape keeps evolving, Komatsu is reinforcing its dedication to supporting the continent's diverse and expanding investor base.

“With established mining operations being joined by a new generation of developers, the need for reliable, experienced partners has never been greater,” says Eric Perben.

“We remain fully committed to serving both our long-standing customers and the growing number of new investors who are developing significant projects across the continent. Our goal is to provide every partner with the same level of reliability, expertise, and long-term support to ensure sustainable growth and operational success in Africa: creating value together with every partner we serve.”

Komatsu representatives will be available from 9 – 12 February in Hall 1G30 at Mining Indaba 2026 to discuss tailored solutions for African mining operations.
